I must admit I have a fascination with what a celebrity bride might choose to wear on her wedding day. I find it interesting because for that one special day I think they want to be as true to themselves as possible. A reflection of who they are and not what the world expects of them. I personally would have a melt down of some sort trying to find the perfect dress knowing all the eyes of the world are on me. But I think these brides made excellent choices. I've found them to be elegant, classic and gorgeous. They take my breath away. Today, brides around the world are still inspired by these creations for their own weddings. Maybe they will give you inspiration for your wedding day. Tell me. What inspires you? Do you have a favorite dress?
Jackie Onassis – September 1953 When Jacqueline Bouvier married John F. Kennedy in September 1953, she wore one of the most talked about wedding dresses of all times. Made with Battenberg lace, the dress was created by Ann Lowe in New York and is currently on display at the Kennedy Library in Boston. Grace Kelly – April 1956 The wedding dress that is considered the most elegant of all times is that of Grace Kelly. Her princess wedding dress was made by Helen Rose, who had won an Oscar for best wardrobe at the studio where Grace Kelly worked. Grace Kelly’s wedding dress was made out of silk taffeta and tulle and was adorned with roses made of Valenciennes lace. The bride’s veil was covered in lace applications of doves and thousands of seeds, all of which were represented with pearls. Diana, The Princess of Wales – July 1981 At her wedding with Prince Charles (Prince of Wales), Diana Frances wore one of the most emblematic wedding dresses of all times. Diana’s princess wedding dress was made out of silk taffeta and was decorated with hand embroidered lace, sequins and 10,000 pearls. It was created by Elizabeth and David Emanuel, and had a dramatic 7,5 meter train: a true princess gown. Nicole Kidman – July 2006 Condé Nast Brides elected Nicole Kidman’s gown as the wedding dress of the century! However, this century is still too short to maintain such an affirmation, seeing as surely more famous brides will try to outshine it. Nicole Kidman’s wedding dress was a pearl colored and very romantic dress, designed by Nicolas Ghesquiere for Balenciaga. The Duchess of Cambridge - April 2011 How about the wedding of the century! Sarah Burton was designer to Kate Middleton for the Royal Wedding. Sarah Burton also known as Alexander McQueen chief designer, which was the main designer at this event. The beauty and accuracy in every detail of Alexander McQueen Brand is the reason why Kate Middleton chose a wedding dress from Alexander McQueen. Combination between traditional and modern touch is the main idea of Kate Middleton wedding dress that Alexander McQueen was able to realize it. The dress is now on display for the world to see at Buckingham Palace until October 3, 2011. If you plan on traveling to the UK, tickets for this event are available at www.royalcollection.org.uk Kate's shoes are reported to be UK size five and a half Did you know these famous actresses married in a black wedding dress? Lena Horne - December 1947
Although there are no photos available of the beautiful Lena in her black wedding dress, we can only imagine she was a stunning and elegant bride. This we do know. Lennie and Lena were married in France on December 1947 but kept their marriage a secret for nearly three years. Their marriage was announced in 1950 in Life magazine.
Lena Horne described her marriage to Lennie Hayton as "perfect", their marriage started out as a secret for several years and was without Lena's love in the beginning. Here is more information about the marriage of Lena Horne and Lennie Hayton. "Lena and Lennie were married by the lady mayor of the 16 arrondissement, who concluded the ceremony with a gracious speech on Franco-American friendship. Lena wore a new black dress from Balenciaga (she was married in black both times). Auren Kahn was best man. Lena and Lennie sailed home, secretly married, on the S.S. America." Marilyn Monroe – January 1954 Marilyn Monroe married Joe DiMaggio in 1954 and today her wedding dress is still considered one of the most elegant of all times. Marilyn Monroe’s wedding dress was not a typical white bridal gown, but it was certainly elegant and completely appropriate for the ceremony and for Marilyn Monroe’s unique personality.
